3 year old F/S Miniature Dachshund presents with acute onset
of anorexia, vomiting, jaundice and depression. On physical
examination her mucus membranes are yellow and pale, she is
tachypneic and has tachycardia, and a distinct fluid wave is
noted in her abdomen. Her temperature is 39.7 C. The following
is found on initial laboratory work:
WBC: 22.7 x 109/L (6.1-16.4)
HCT: 0.33 L/L (0.38-0.57)
Hgb: 117 g/L (132-193)
Plts: 123 x 109/L (164-510)
Segs: 21.1 x 109/L (3.2-10.8)
Tot Prot: 45 g/L (51-72)
Polychromasia is rare
Urea: 65.5 mmol/L (3.0-10.5)
Creat: 454 umol/L (60-140)
Amylase: 1495 U/L (300-1400)
Lipase: 1850 U/L (30-560)
Alk P: 1489 U/L (23-87)
Tbili: 466 umol/L (0-10)
ALT: 172 U/L (0-70)
